Throwback Wednesday- The Art of sampling music

busta_gimme

Some of the greatest old school rappers sampled some of the greatest movies because they saw greatness, if not in the film the musical score. Take Busta’s “Gimme Some More” it sampled the now classic Psycho. Even the song titled Victory on the puff daddy and family sampled Rocky and the list goes on and on. Sampling great movies such as those sometimes lets you the listener in on what the artist/producer/musician keen ears detected. Today you see little to no awareness to music or scores from films because film of the current generation do not have anything worth sampling. Name a movie that actually had something worth sampling.
With the advances in technology I fear many have simply got lazy and don’t take notice of great samples or even try to create something great. Even worst great music is not being made that much actually that a lie as I listen to Mumford and sons, Adele and countless other musician that are not rappers as they seem to be creating great music today worthy of sampling but of course most rappers are simply not trying to be that creative and I am disappointed.

Anyway as usual enough of my rant back to the drawing board.

Then we have the Hip Hopera’s OH YEAH<

DAYUM!!– feature musician Richie Branson

Chrono Trigger has been one of my old time favorite rpg even though I never had the opportunity to beat it. This game was released in a time when I simply had no funds to purchase my own games. I did not have mommy and daddy to purchase insanely priced games. It was a few years before I could play these games legally, yes I do admit I used emulators to play the old classics but when these games became available on the playstation I certainly did not miss the chance to purchase the collection. None the less I never had the time to properly play it again. The one thing I have to commend beyond the game play is the music arrangement/score it happens to be one of the best of it’s generation.
Eitherway this article is about Richie Branson a musician much like myself who loved Chrono and many other games of that era so much that he does his own throw back to these games. For more please check his website at the link below and check out his musical arrangement for his other passions.
